First day in animation class was epic. I'm gonna give you just a brief of what was happening in those first weeks .OK, this is the story ,we're all excited and everything is great. Well, before we all got down to the business of learning what we came for, we have had to go into a 2 weeks boot camp first ,to learn the principles, techniques of animation and life drawing, yeah! all kinds of those stuff, but you get the picture. Well at first I was like, what!... We don't need to be doing that because we know how to draw already, but little did I knew that I cannot just randomly draw as I see fit. I didn't know that there was a measuring, proportions, perspectives ,etc that needs to be taken to consideration while drawing. So we had to unlearn what we thought we knew about drawing and relearn what was being taught to us,thus the majority of us were self taught artists and that would make us amateurs. Then here comes a problem now, life drawing! We had to draw in a certain way we were not used to. I was expected to draw in a way I sort of found weird but it made sense.
The boot camp activities were simultaneously educational and fun, and I cannot complain about that. So we were given some drawing tools for the first lesson , the activity was to learn how to shade and we watched videos about shading and drawing in general. As the week progressed we had to learn about perspective. Now that's interesting! I said to myself . We had started with one point perspective lesson and that was some really new to me in terms of drawing, especially when I'm supposed to drawing an interior of a room. Previously I could just randomly draw a room and its furniture without having to analyse if my room and its contents comprises a vanishing points and the kind of perspective it is.
Now,talk about the life drawing lesions,Jeez! should you have seen my drawings in that drawing studio back then during the boot camp, you'd swear I wasn't meant to be in that class. There I was and thought to myself that I was good when it came to art but only to find out that I couldn't just start sketching without having to analyse my proportions and perspectives first. I should tell you that in those two weeks of boot camp was my struggle but I had to suck it up and learn. That was very educational to me when it came to art.
I really did enjoy and had fun with boot camp .The most fun part was meeting new people with different talents and who share goals and visions with you.
